Material prices: restock and price reset. Is it about time?
Hi.
I was wondering if we should have a restock on materials at the traders. Also a price reset to make things normal.
I`m not whining about material prices and such, i got my armors on the 27th in the head start day. And prices were reasonable, materials were available at the trader, also alot of peeps sold tanned hides, cloth, steel, iron, etc in droknars forge at normal price.
Anyway, i could afford to make a new armor set, even more sets because i stocked up 1000 plat way before the 27th just to make sure i can spend all i want if needed.
But I think of the new players who just got factions with no prphecies account and also about those who had no time to farm xxx plat.
Just think about it. With lvl 45 or 55 armor, even being lvl 20 after a while it will be very frustrating and maybe impossible to do quests and missions. The money you get from completing quest is hardly enough to buy skills for your primary proffesion. And with the material prices skyrocketing (dam you lucky few who stocked up and sell it now) it's extremly hard for 0day noobs (not offense) to craft armor.
First there is the 1500k price for each piece wich after some play time isn't that much of a problem. But the materials needed, argh.... you spend alot more on those... if you can find them of course.
So, being 3 days into the actual game reliase and more and more lvl 14-15 showing up whining about prices i think it would be the time to reset material prices and restock traders to stop this abuse. If not, for 2 weeks, maybe more, the next farming target will be to farm X and Y places and salvage to get materials (both in cantha and tyria) than go to Kainung Center and abuse those in need with the highest price for cloth ever.
For those who have tyrian charcaters, farming places for materials:
cloth:
gates of cryta, undeads ... slvage tons of cloth from those capes (can't remeber the name)
tanned hide:
ettins - both runes and tanned hides and steel/iron... name a better place
steel:
salvage shields/weapons from fow, i always got a decent amount of steel when i soloed spiders and salvaged stuff that was likely to salvage into steel
In cantha a good spot for farming tanned hides, scarse steel and runes is outside the harbour. Just kill the canthan ettins = yettis. For real. With a lvl 14-15 assasin with the best armour (lvl 55) available on the island + a half brain to set skills and manage agro you can farm them easily.
You toughts on the topic (rsseting/restock).

Once things settle down, people will start selling to the traders again and they will be restocked. That`s how it was when Prophecies came out and that`s how it will be with Factions. I see no need to change things now.

It will balance itself out after the hype of being the first with ___ armor is over and newer players learn to salvage.
It has not even been a week since release.

probably not.
what the problem is, tanned hides and cloth, leather and other materials are selling out so fast that it's near impossible to grab any. and once they're back on the trader, they're at super-inflated prices that are ridiculous.
at least, to me.
i wasn't here on April 28th when Prophecies was released, but i guess things will return to normal once people have gotten what they want from the traders. a trader reset would probably uproot the economy even worse than it is right now.

A few days ago, player economy prices were this:
pretty much all common materials: 10g each
parchment: 80g
steel: 100g
the other rare materials were all around 100g except the superrares like shards/ectos
Nowadays... (player economy prices)
Wood: air
iron: 15g
cloth: 25g
tan hide: 30
steel: 200-300g a few hours ago:1500g
parchment: 60-80
a few days ago, a full platemailset would cost 12700g
today... 18500
And those guys who were forced to buy steel at huge prices like 1k...
42500
I like the steel increase because I can make good money from farming now but I feel sorry for the guys who have to dish out over 40k to get their armour.
(Honest, they were selling at 1k+ in droks forge dist 1 euro a few hours ago)
Cloth and tanned hide are huge now too but players are starting to sell those at 20g in an effort to undercut everyone else so they can get rid of their huge stockpile of cloth (some guy was selling several thousands of cloth X.x)

Lol, yeah. Doesn't sound like a bad idea, though i'm more for waiting it out and allowing it to fix itself. If it doesn't then rebalance it, usually staying out of things helps more than completely reseting it, when at all possible.
Though on another note, I was making my 15k glads when the prices tok a huge jump. As I do not have the real world dough to buy Factions right now, i'm still playing Prophecies. Anyway, people were freaking out trying to hoard the most Tanned Hide, Steel, Iron, etc... so that they could sell at inflated prices. At times I see bots essentially doing the same, strange at best it seems to me. Lol @ people.

I remember when ONE fur square cost well over 1 plat. Sounds like whining to me.
Just wait 2 weeks and prices will start to go back to normal where everything except Ecto & Shards are worthless.

Confused by 1k for steel ingots... Considering you can have it crafted for about 650g:
100g (10 wood) + 200g = Charcoal
~150g (10 iron) + Charcoal + 200g = Steel ingot
or: 100+200+150+200 = 650
The crafter is a fixed price, but the iron and wood isn't, so you're at it's mercy. 1k though? Ridiculous.

i agree it will go back to normal pretty soon. i havent gotten factions yet, so i unloaded all my steel and leather over the last couple of days for 250-300 per and made a fortune. its all in high demand now because of the new armors, but once most people get that, really what else is there to use steel and leather for?

Trying to get all the materials for my ritualist armor was rediculous; everything I needed was out of stock. I had to camp the trader so I could snag each individual leather square that came in.
And I suppose if you're worried about money, that's a big problem as well. Everything is many times more expensive than it usually is
Should we reset anything? No. This is how a free market works. If Demand is 100x greater than supply, there's a definite shortage. And remember LAST time the market was reset? There was a feeding frenzy to see who could buy the most Ecto for 100 gold. A restocking and/or price reset would do more harm than good; prices will begin to stabilize over the next few days naturally, without throwing the entire market on its head.

Seriously, check the material crafter. Tanned Hide Squares + 50g = Leather Squares. We all know how easy it is to get Tanned Hide Squares, don't we?

LMFAO
Step 1. Buy a cheap salvage kit
Step 2. Go farm a newb area for armor pieces
Step 3. Salvage materials
Oh, by the way - "resetting" the material traders would leave them with no materials at all. They don't get materials until players sell to them.
Artificially restocking them will never happen. Get off your lazy butt and farm materials like everyone else.

having a price reset would make things worse as everone and there mothers would flock to the traders and buy buy buy do we all remmeber what happened a month or so back when the traders reset them self do to that glitch? ppl bough out just about everything. As for the restock Anet doesn't stock the traders it is the community that does it when they sell to the traders.

While I feel for the new players, prices will settle down soon. As for Tyrians, you have no excuse, other then having a busy life. It should have been obvious this would happen, and in fact it was made obvious in a few threads, people actually said they were stockpiling materials.
Know what happened? They, and I, got rich. I went from 51k to 163k in 2 days. It's called, playing the market.
